Frequently Asked Questions

Is the use of PFT safe?

PFTs have been used widely for many years without known detriment to life or the environment. They are highly stable molecules with excellent compatibility. It displays the same, if not better, dielectric behaviour as cable fluid.

They have been used in many forms of medicine including eye surgery and even used experimentally for liquid breathing. Recently, a premature babies under developed lungs were filled with PFT to assist their growth.

The concentrations used in cable leak detection are incredibly low, less than 10 parts per million, at these concentrations no material compatibility issues have ever been experienced.

Does the PFT method require extensive road-works or excavations?

The PFT method is non intrusive, no excavation is required until the leak site is identified. The only excavation required is to repair the leak itself.

Is the PFT method accurate?

The PFT method can only identify the location where the oil escapes from the cable, it can not provide ambiguous results. The results can only be accurate or no result at all!

Are your services genuinely no win no fee?

Utilise offer, cable leak investigation services only, on a no win no fee basis. If we do not indicate the location of the leak accurately, there will be no charge. Our costing model is based of the length of the cable and fixed as such for easy budgeting, allowing engineers to know, beforehand, exactly what the cost for locating a leak will be. Obviously, we need to carry out the investigation to its completion, in order to offer this guarantee.

How long does it take?

The investigation will vary depending on site circumstances and length of cable. Larger leaks are normally located in two weeks from instruction however smaller leaks can take up to six weeks to complete.

Does PFT leak detection only work on fluid filled cables?

No, this technology is equally applicable with most buried services ranging from Gas to major Oil pipelines. Please contact us for more information

Does the cable have be 'Out Of Service' to carry out the investigation?

No,the cable can remain energised throughout the investigation procedure
