GAS FILLED
CABLES

We have taken our experience working on the fluid filled cable network and developed our technique to be used on gas insulated cables across the globe. Using PFT as a method of detecting gas leaks on the network has many benefits over traditional methods.

Our key strength is the use of PFT in areas where Helium, Hydrogen or other tracer gases have been used for leak detection on gas insulated networks.  Essentially the sensitivity of Helium testing is in parts per million or 106, normally 5ppm above a background of 5ppm.  The sensitivity of our analytical equipment is measured in parts per quadrillion, ppq or 1015, Or in simple terms, a million times more sensitive.

This gives us the ability to locate even the smallest of leaks that previously would have been undetectable, and the PFT will permeate through almost all surfaces. We understand that faults can be costly, time consuming and dangerous which is why we have developed this fast and effective method of locating leaks.

In an emergency situation, we can be on site ready to begin our operations within 48 hours, we then introduce the PFT into the system and within a matter of hours can begin to locate the fault.

A huge benefit of using PFT to locate faults on the gas network is that the cable does not need to be de-energised until the time of excavation, drastically reducing downtime and the risk of losing customers.

For UK and European based jobs, we have a fleet of mobile detection units, allowing us see the results of our sampling live as we survey the cable below.

ANALYSIS

We understand that time is money. We can begin work in 48 hours in most areas for severe leak. Gas leaks can be detected in as little as 48 hours.
